Ubuntu Compiz Alt-Tab Behavior

Ubuntu Compiz Alt-Tab Behavior

For a couple versions now, the default Alt-Tab behavior in Ubuntu has had a wide variety of stupid things going on.

In 10.10, it defaults to immediately and completely hiding everything except the highlighted window. This is super disorienting and sucks. Even better, to fix it you basically have to install a whole new package! To fix:

  • Install the configuration program for Compiz:
    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
  • Open System -> Preferences -> CompizConfig Settings Manager.
  • Navigate to Window Management -> Static Application Switcher -> Appearance
  • Turn Opacity up to 60 or so.

Windows should no longer disappear simply because you're switching among them.
