Czech Cycling Established Routes
Prague and the Czech Republic has a lot of great cycling routes, listed on print or online maps. The following are notes on some well established, more general, longer range touring routes, connecting major destinations.
[ back to Czech cycling notes ]
Elbe Cycling Route: North Bohemia--Prague
- 175km/109mi
- Mostly on dedicated bicycle path
- Mostly paved; follow recommended path to divert around bad sections
Great website at http://www.elbe-cycleroute.cz with information and online map. Also produces a printed map (look for green cover with www.elbe-cycleroute.cz on bottom).
Prague--Vienna Greenways
- 418km/260mi
- Almost entirely on dedicated bicycle path
Official site with lots of information at pragueviennagreenways.org. Map PDFs are downloadable for free. Many tour companies lead trips along this route and have some information on their sites, e.g., Visit Greenways.
Prague--Passau along Moldau Trail
Velociped has a good general overview with printable map. Radweg-Reisen GmbH Tours also has some information.
Prague--Budapest
There are several ways to do this, including a bike trail. Czech Active Tours has some information on a route through smaller towns, as opposed to commonly used routes through Vienna.
EuroVelo Routes
These are major pan-European routes. They are required to be paved, relatively quiet, and have no more than a 6 percent grade (unfortunately!). More info on the EuroVelo website, some general notes are on Wikipedia. Notably, Route 7 connects Prague and Berlin.
